Honoring the Women of Wana Duma Children's Project

Today, March 8th, is International Women's Day. We are celebrating the amazing women of Wana Duma Children's Project. Lead by passionate women, both in Kenya and the United States, Wana Duma Children's Project provides health and wellness support for mothers who are HIV+ and grandmothers and great-grandmothers who are raising their orphaned grandchildren. Inspiring. Selfless. Loving. Hardworking. These are just a few words to describe the many women we have the honor of serving.

African women in general need to know that it’s OK for them to be the way they are - to see the way they are as a strength, and to be liberated from fear and from silence.
— Wangari Maathai

This year's International Women's Day theme is 'Be BOLD for Change'. While each of our mothers and grandmothers are strong personalities, they may not be what some may see as the typical vision of BOLD change makers. These women quietly impart their knowledge, their strength, and their hope to the next generation. They work around the clock to provide for their children and grandchildren often sacrificing their own health in the process. The next generation sees these acts of strength and sacrifice and will BE the bold change makers Kenya desperately needs.

Change takes all of us - Quiet Strength, Loud Passion, Firm Belief, Committed Activists, Bold Action, Steady Leadership. We are all connected and we have much to learn from each other.
