Susanne is back in Kenya

My first day back in Kenya I was joined by Brenda Sherburn, an artist from California who was in Kenya for a couple weeks to do art projects with Kenyan Children.  Wana Duma was her second stop.  Brenda spent two days with me and 12 of our kids (Anastasia, Peter, Agnes R, Agnes W, Stephen, Titus, Joseph, Josephat, David N, David M, and Simon) were delighted to spend the afternoon drawing, painting and creating.  Brenda is inspired to bring children and conservation together thru art.  Brenda’s website is www.saveworlddraw.org.  Check it out and see the fun they all had.

After Brenda left for Nairobi Susan, Daniel, Hassan and I went to check on the 3 of our kids newly settled into Good Shepherd Academy.  Mercy, Elizabeth and Dennis all doing very well and enjoying their new school experience (Patrick also attends but was absent for the day).  Elizabeth will be staying with us during spring break starting March 27th she has no family left in the area. The next day Susan and I walked a few miles down the road to check on the two Hannah’s placed in Utumishi Primary Boarding school.  Both are settling in nicely although Hannah K. is just getting over a nasty bout with Malaria!

On our way home we stopped to check on a couple Cu-Cu’s (pronounced sho-sho, Grandmothers). They have been busy making beautiful woven sisal bags for us….this puts food on their table! One of our Great Cu-Cus hadn’t eaten for three days! Over the last few days a couple other Cu-Cus also stopped by to have chai and talk about their Grandchildren.  All seem in good health and are very happy (relieved!) that there is hope of a better life for their grandkids.

We are all waiting for rain!  It has been very hot and no rain since I left in November….cows are drying up and chickens aren’t laying!  The skies are filled with dust like a smoggy day!  I’ve never seen it this brown before!

 Until next time!
