Many of our children live with a surviving relative. The backbone of family life in Gilgil, Kenya are the Grandmothers (Cu-cus, pronounced show-show). One of the goals of the Wana Duma Children’s project has been to support the Grandmothers with food and medicine so they can continue to raise their grandchildren and give them the stability they need. Many of our Cu-cus have skills in weaving and beading and we have begun buying some of their work – increasing the family’s independance and health.
